In training managers on how to deal with “difficult” employees I would explain to them to remember that each and every person believes they are right in what they do. Think about it, if they did not know the difference between right and wrong they would be in a prision or a rubber room. That is what we lable irrational thought. However, it is only irrational to you the observer.
It is amazing what occurs when managers truly understand this concept. Instead of getting mad and maybe exploding on an employee, they start having empathy and try to really understand what made the employee’s work under par. They actually try to solve the problem. It is also amazing what happens with the employee. Instead of thinking that “the boss is always picking on me” they really begin to admire their boss and their morale and productivity rises.
In my recent efforts to discover true happiness, I stumbled back over this important lesson in my own world. When I ask the question of who’s right and who is wrong, it becomes apparent that everyone is right in their own head. So are my beliefs and thought processes resulting in happiness? If not, it must be what I am thinking that is the problem.
I am writing this to explain why am thinking and thus writting the way I am. The most difficult thing that some people have is excepting other people’s beliefs. Think about it…it is the reason for most volience and hatred. So if you can truley except this concept then you can use this site to have a open and honest discussion on understanding why things are the way they are.
Einstein once said, “The definition to insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” So the choice is yours on who is wrong and right.
