Self confidence is always the determining factor in success. Most importantly, most people think they will get confidence after the accomplishment…when you actually need it before you accomplish.
Bluntly stated if you are not confident in your own success, who do you think will have that confidence for you? Who will give you the challenge when they need to be assured of success? Will they take a chance on you? They will if you are confident. That is because confident people still make mistakes, but more importantly they don’t give up.
That little bit of advice…”Don’t give up” would make so much of the difference in so many people’s lives. They look at other people and just see the end result of their determination…the nice car, the nice house and think they were just lucky. They don’t see the lessons (what some refer to as mistakes) the long hours and hard work.
That is why you must be first confident of your success before you actually get the success. My favorite example of confidence and determination is Thomas Edison, inventor of the light bulb and many other inventions still used today. While he was struggling to make the light bulb, he was asked about his latest “failure” and replied, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Just ask yourself how many times you would try. When ever you feel that you can’t do something, just look at a light bulb. Would we still be reading by candlelight if not for people like Edison?
I am not sure why people give up. Life is hard and I have had my generous share of hardships. My guess is they begin to forget themselves…they start to focus on what is going on outside instead of what is happening to them on the inside. They begin to believe that they are out of control and completely meaningless. That is so far from the truth that is it hard to believe that people actually feel this way, but that is what my research has uncovered.
The truth is there is no such thing as mistakes in this world. Just look at nature and you cannot help but be struck in awe of how all the animals work in harmony to create an incredible balance. I tried to create a salt water reef aquarium once and learned first hand how important each and every creature was. It took me a year and half to finally get the tank to a point of balance. There were plants, fish, parasites, snails, shrimps, coral, and bacteria all working in harmony. Even the rocks and sand had a job. So no matter how insignificant you think you are, you still have a purpose here and you should be happy to be fulfilling it.
It comes down to two possible situations. Either you like where you are or you want something else and should begin moving to that point in life. Either way you should be confident and happy about your position.
All the tools to happiness and success have always been within us, we just need to start using them. There is a reason that each of us is unique in our tastes and skills. We are all experts on ourselves and the key to enjoying life is to exercise those tastes and skills.
So what are you waiting for?
