One of the main reasons people feel so disconnected from the world and thus un-happy is they are struggling to find their purpose in life. The simple fact that you are in search of your purpose already puts you on the path of finding it.

The sad truth is when you do find your purpose, you will see it was always within your grasp. You just had trouble seeing it. So first you must have faith that you will find it since it is so close.

I have a different view on finding your purpose. Most people ask you what makes you happy? I ask what do you struggle with? Struggle to me signifies something you want to do, but are having trouble doing. I believe that our purpose is to overcome those struggles and most likely using the experience, go help others overcome theirs.

Let me give you an example. If you struggle in relationships, you may have to take more time to uncover the reason that you are struggling. That discovery will lead you to better, lasting relationships and you will also be poised to help others with your experience. I have found the best teachers on the ones that know the problem from every angle (or at least an angle I never looked at). In business, I am quickly discovering that is more important to know what does not work instead of what does. Nobody wants to waste money doing something that is destined to fail, however knowing why another failed may be the reason you succeed. Edison in creating the light bulb said once, “I have not failed, I have just found 10,000 ways that don’t work.”

I also believe that something deep inside of us is pulling us into these situations to struggle. There is something there we are trying to accomplish. I have always found that it is a lesson or an experience that will take us on to bigger and brighter things. In the end the lesson is ours, but our true purpose will come from helping others. If you are struggling to find happiness today, you may be writing a best-selling self help book on the subject after you make your discovery. Maybe doing speaking tours?

Each and ever one of us is unique. We may have had similar circumstances and experiences, but no two people have had the exact same combination of those experiences. It is that combination of experiences that molds our personality and our character. I often read about doctors that said they lost a parent to illness when younger or cops that had family members as victims to a crime. Many of us have see crusades by mothers such as the recently passed “Amber Law” after their children were abducted.

Good can come from a bad experience. It is only up to us to make it.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God; your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
