With the holiday season quickly approaching, I am sure that some are starting to feel the pressures of life start to squeeze. What better time then to turn it around? Why not pledge that this is the year will be different? This season will be the most memorable, most happy of all your life!

Start with Thanksgiving. Use the day for reflection. Think of everything you can give thanks for. Your health, your family, your friends, your life experiences…good and bad. Think about the faces of cheer that will surround our tables at the holidays. When you feel the smile start to warm your face, you know you are “in the zone.” Why not make that feeling last all year…all your life! That is the power of giving thanks.

Start making a habit that 3 times a day you give thanks for who you are and your life. This may sound hokey at first, but try it and see how it works. You cannot help but feel loved and at peace. Simply take a minute or two and say a brief thank you to yourself and think about everything you can be thankful for. It does not have to be anywhere special. I usually do my first one while getting ready in the morning and the last just before I go to sleep.

I know in my own experience it made me change my perspective. It taught me the most valuable things in life were already in my possession. Once I realized that, getting anything else seemed easy and enjoyable. It erased fear since I knew I would never loose “everything.”

It also boosts your spirits and gives you energy to proceed. Maybe you are thankful for your children…if so, you know you are working to provide for them. Maybe you are thankful for all your experiences, and it re-invigorates you to take on the day.

Saying these brief thank yous are the easiest and fastest path to increasing your positive thinking. It also builds the habit of gratefulness. This is very important in order to expand your happiness. Have you ever done something for someone who was incredibly grateful? Didn’t you want to help that person more? So will all the people around you.

So say thank you on Thanksgiving and see how it feels. May you all have a wonderful holiday and may all your wishes be yours.
