One of my favorite quotes from Dr. Wayne Dyer is “If you change the way you look at things…then the things you look at change.” It took about a year and half for me to truly understand that statement, but when it clicked, it really felt as if I was in a whole new world.

The facts are that every so-called “problem” in our lives is there for a reason. Most likely, we have created them. Good or bad, we must learn from them to grow. The problem is we usually get tied up emotionally into the problem and that begins to cloud our judgment…most often only making the situation worse.

To simplify for the sake of discussion, let’s look at what a problem really is:

  1. Problems are always caused by a lack of something
  2. Problems cannot be solved by avoidance…a problem avoided is still a problem
  3. There is always a reward for solving a problem…the greater the lesson, the greater the reward

So why is it we usually shy away from solving our problems? Most of the time it is fear. We don’t want to rock the boat…maybe we fear the unknown. It is much easier to stay within your comfort zone. If that is seriously what you want…then why can’t you be happy where you are? It is because deep inside you something wants to let you be you…and you are trying to hold it back.

See problems are really only problems if we look at them as such…In fact, if you look at them as opportunities to learn and grow, experiences to have, or chances to better your surroundings, you start to almost welcome them in your life. Why not?…Entrepreneurs make money by solving problems. The people chosen to lead businesses or governments tend to have a problem solving characters.

Most importantly, these so-called problems stand directly in the way of your happiness. Either you learn to live happily where you are or you start to tackle them. You cannot complain them away. Doing so will only make you sink deeper into depression.

So if a problem is caused by a lack of something…find it! Most of the time it is just knowledge or experience. Don’t avoid your problems…tackle them head on. And when you are struggling, think of the reward that will come in the solution…be it better relationships, more money, or just peace of mind and more self confidence.

Remember…”change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change”
